Insignia Description
A Silver metal device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall blazoned as follows: Celeste, a chevron Argent (Silver Gray), debruised by a lightning flash bendwise and a key in saltire wards upward, surmounted by a torch palewise Or, enflamed Gules; in chief two heraldic roses in fess Sable and Argent. Attached at the bottom a Black scroll doubled and inscribed “PRIMORIS SCIO” in Silver.

Symbolism
Oriental blue and gray are the colors traditionally used by Military Intelligence. The chevron symbolizes protection the unit provides to the nation, while continuously watching over United States interests worldwide. The two heraldic roses represent the silence and secrecy of the battalion’s activities and the affiliation to both the Military Intelligence Corps and 704th Military Intelligence Brigade. The black and white colors of the heraldic roses allude to the battalion’s 24-hour observation mission. The torch signifies vigilance and the unit’s ability to obtain knowledge on the nation’s adversaries and follows the motto which translates to “FIRST TO KNOW.” The key suggests the unit’s mission to protect and gain access to secrets. The lighting flash denotes the unit’s Signal Intelligence functions.

History
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 5 April 2006. It was amended so that the insignia will now be manufactured as a one piece item and to change the description on 2 October 2006.
