It was redesignated for the 554th Engineer Battalion (Construction) on 9 September 1955. It was amended to change the description (blazon) of the shield on 1 June 1966. The insignia for the 554th Engineer Battalion was amended to revise the description and symbolism of the design on 17 June 1991.
