Symbolism
The colors orange and white are for the Signal Corps. The black area represents Africa, the dark continent. The fire arrow, an early signaling device, represents the mission and battle experience of the unit. The mountainous terrain of Italy, where the unit served during World War II, is represented by the jagged division of the lower part of the shield.

History
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 31 Jan 1962.
