Insignia Description
A Silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Tenné, on a pale cotissed between four lightning flashes in saltire Argent a sword Azure, the blade consisting of three jagged bolts of lightning. Attached below the shield a Silver scroll inscribed "OUTSTANDING" in Blue letters.

Symbolism
Orange and white are the colors used for Signal Battalions. The lightning bolts symbolize communications. The white broad area between two narrow bands refers to the 44th Signal Battalion's past mission as a Signal Construction Battalion. The sword refers to both the tactical and support mission of the Battalion. The sword also alludes to man's determination to defend freedom against oppression.

History
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 15 June 1967.
