Insignia Description
A silver color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height overall, consisting of a silver dragon’s head upon a silver helmet, detailed black, with blue mantling and a silver and blue torse in front of a red torch and yellow flash crossed saltirewise, torch in bend; all enclosed in base by a tripartite silver scroll inscribed “CONLIGE ET PROFICE” in black letters.

Symbolism
Oriental blue and silver gray (silver) are the colors traditionally associated with Military Intelligence units.  The helmet is adapted from the device of the unit’s parent organization, the 513th Military Intelligence Group, and reflects the unit’s history.  The lightning flash denotes speed and electronic warfare.  The torch signifies truth and alludes to interrogation.  The dragon, a mythological guardian of treasures, symbolizes security and strength.  Thus, the design elements of the device personify the unit’s mission and capabilities.

History
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 27 April 1982.  It was amended to add metric measurements and revise the symbolism on 8 November 1993.
