Insignia Description
A silver color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) overall, consisting of a black helmet in profile with silver grills and details in front of a red diagonal sword with blade point at top left, and surmounted by a red diagonal flash its upper point at top right, all centered upon an oriental blue globe with silver gridlines encircled by a silver scroll inscribed “ACCURATE FAST ALL SOURCE” in black around the top and at bottom center, between the lower point of the flash and the pommel of the sword, a section of laurel tied at center, all green.

Symbolism
Silver gray (silver) and oriental blue are the colors associated with Military Intelligence units.  The helmet is adapted from the distinctive unit insignia of the unit’s parent organization.  The globe refers to the worldwide scope of the unit’s mission and to the “all source” aspect suggested by the motto.  The lightning flash and sword are symbolic of speed and accuracy of communications, and the laurel in base denotes achievement.

History
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 30 April 1982.  It was amended to revise the description and symbolism on 21 September 1993.
