Right Side: A gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) overall consisting of three gold sun rays behind a blue (oriental) disc surmounted at top by a gold chess piece (horse’s head) facing sinister and in base a red and gold chess board, all above a three folded gold scroll inscribed in black letters “STRENGTH THROUGH VIGILANCE.”

Symbolism
The sun rays allude to the awarded Philippine Presidential Unit Citation and to the unit’s World War II service in New Guinea and Luzon. The knight, a chess piece shaped like a horse’s head, symbolizes the Group’s ability to make strategic moves while checking any hostile infiltration and advancement. The color red is used to symbolize courage, zeal and awareness and with the alternating gold squares refers to the unit’s counterintelligence mission. Oriental blue is a color used by the Military Intelligence.

History
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved on 27 August 1968.  It was amended on 16 February 2005 to reflect that the insignia will be manufactured and worn in pairs.
