Insignia Description
A Silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Tenné, issuant from base a telegraph pole arraswise with two cross beams, each arm holding four insulators with a like number of circuit wires bendsinisterwise, issuant from the ends of the cross beams three flashes, all Argent. Attached below the shield is a Silver scroll inscribed "MAINTAINING CONTACT" in Black letters.

Symbolism
The telephone pole symbolizes the functions of the Battalion, the four circuits represent the four components of the organization (the two construction companies, the Headquarters Company and the Medical Detachment).

History
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 440th Signal Construction Battalion on 7 January 1943. It was redesignated for the 440th Signal Battalion on 19 March 1962.
